I noticed recently that if you take a Nuke Centuar, and around it with 3 laser Centuars and all other spots with missle Centuars, for a 10 ships group, it's actually comparable to ageon. The groups is much faster more mobile and can defend its self we'll agints smaller fast moving targets, like the green blobs and ailean fighters. Just wondering if anyone else figured this out.

I dont often use small ships except for purple things and fighter defence but thats it. Aegeon health bar doesnt move when impacted by purple things but cwrberus are weak to alien fighters launched from carriers

No, I don't think so, because Aegaeon's cannon hasn't friendly fire, so it can shoot at the enemies by very short distances. And an other bad thing is that the armor isn't the same as the Aegaeon, so this battle group can't fight versus 1-2 heavy battlecruisers. The defense against one can be lethal to the group, because a battlecruiser focuses its firepower to a single turret of a centaur, so it can't survive for a long time And ( I think) the Ion cannon inflicts more damage than the nuke. Spending 750K for the Aegaeon isn't stupid.

Yes in a head on combat the ageon wins but if you micro your ships the smaller pack can take out 2-3 battle cruisers with out loosing a ships. Sure some of them might by missing a turret or both but they perform much better if you micro them. An yea the ion cannon does a but more but has no AOE. And the ageon does portly agints the fighters and blobs since its turrets don't damage life forms much and they also turn to slowly to be affective agints fighters. Most can make 2 runs before being taken out.

You don't even need that many ships.
I just use the nuke centaur, 2 laser centaurs and a WeldMaster.
I can basically just hold off any attack with the help of Mothership specials and some microing. I also use this combo to clear the area in Deep Space Mining.

Well at level 40 survival 4 ships isn't going to cut it. My mother ship is pure support with everything else on offensive. But for the most part I fly 2 fleets the main one with all the capital ships and then the sub fleet.

It's Macro, not micro. Making a shortcut to select ships is macro, while telling each individual ship what to do would be micro managing, which is annoying.

Macro is generally used to describe the building up of resources and using those resources to build things.
Micro is the control of said things.
Also making shortcuts to select units is in no way "Macro".

You need to have 1-2 repair ships in the cluster than you can take on battleships. Or use your mother ship as a blitzkrieg type ship. Cruise by into masterminds or into battleships get some shots ff than run and repeat while firing artillery and if you have 2 missle turrets up front and 4 repair turrets the mother ship is almost invincible.

Not to mention if you have your mother ship behind the aegeon with 6 repair turrets the aegeon gets repaired as it losses health so it stays at 100% health even if your fighting 1-2 battleships

It's pretty cool to read about the various tactics and perspectives, many of which I haven't even considered before. Well, it's good to know that the game does not have a single ultimate strategy, but rather allows entirely different ones to lead to the same success. ;D

Well, normally I leave "fragile" ships (support ships, Hydras & Crius) shielded by durable capital class ships (Cerberus / Aegaeon). When under heavy fire I use special powers, Cerberus shield, ion cannon etc. When a front Cerberus is too damaged, I sometimes move heavy Centaurs to the front to act as a temporary shield, or move the Cerberus to a safe position in the formation, usually somewhere in the back.

That's sort of what I do. My aegeon takes point, my Cerberus's take the flanks, and my centaurs bring up the rear. But I have them set up in a way which would allow me to split up the main convoy into three different groups for different needs. Like a repair corp, Main battle group, and secondary/sortie group
