I think we should re consider having it as a Prequel for now!
Hear me out on this one, but on the mission Evacuation, it says "first report of attacks" or something like that meaning its very close to the beginning of the story! And itll be hard to make new or less ships in the prequel for BOTH sides
So i was just thinking itd be hard to make a prequel and I think we should change it to a sequel (Regardless of conquest mode).
does anyone have response to this? if so let me know

Nowhere in Evacuation does it say that it's the first attack. It says that the planet is the first terraforming success, but that's the only "first".
In fact, it is shown that the aliens have been attacking for a while, because Commander Haggas was removed from command from his post as captain of the Artemis because of cowardice in the face of the aliens.

Maybe the prequel could be based on either the Zeus before it got destroyed(either battling pirates to start with and then aliens up to its destruction) or another ship that was maybe exploring and had its ftl damaged and had to repair it or make it back to human territory with little jumps, being attacked inbetween jumps.

You are correct on that but im still questioning if it should be a prequel or not. I stand corrected.
We could have missions about the zeus or athena or the artemis (unknown ship)
but i am still questioned whether it should be a prequel or not

Maybe have pirates encounter the aliens first. That would explain why the EDF ships are armed. If you think you are the only race in the universe then why would you arm ships. Maybe the pirates meet the aliens and attack them trying to raid them and then the aliens wipe out of pirates and find co-ordinates for the route the Athena takes since it was the first EDF ship to encounter them. This then drags the EDF into the conflict

Maybe have the aliens encounter pirates that look similar to the EDF then the pirated attack them and scurry off in a way. AND the aliens mistake the EDF for the pirates and want revenge

Even if you did for some reason think that you were the only race in the universe, the ships would probably still be armed as a "just in case" measure, and also pirates, which would inevitably exist.
Also, the acronym EDF stands for "Earth Defence Fleet", which would be a little silly to have unarmed. It also seems implausible that the humans would have survived so long against the aliens if they only started weaponising ships when the aliens attacked.
The pirates idea is a little cliche, but it works, I guess.
Personally, I was thinking about a botched first contact situation (also cliche) involving the Artemis (Commander Haggas' ex-ship). Haggas, being an idiot, could have opened fire on the aliens, freaked out when they got the better of his ship (since he is incompetent), and run away, leading to his demotion and the start of the war.

What if there was a war of humans and thats why the ships are armed. one side (like a country for example) disagrees with another, they arm ships, and fight!

Commander Haggas is kind of a dick if you ask me. cowardice and argument.
I think there is a character shortage
The only people in the story is commander haggas, the captain (Forgot his name) EDF command, the admiral, The Athena's captain, the engineer (who is pretty impacting in the story actually) and the hercules's captain.
I actually just thought of an idea. you know those traders you run into in homeworld re-mastered? they could be in the pre(or se)quel and give you blueprints for ships if you have the resources!

Yeah hagas is an idiot ift i was him i wuold hold fire but what i think the aliens caused agresion is that their enslaved by a superior race and their masters forced them to be agresive on the EDF since how they get so good production that fast

Well, as announced, it's going to be a prequel, but you should definitely keep this discussion going. Perhaps one or the other idea might make it into the prequel.
