I know that there hasn't been a lot of activity for the past few days, but I can assure you, a lot is being done in the background. Soon Space Borders: Beginnings will have its first beta release and you (if you want) will be the first to play it. Sorry for not focussing on "Alien Encounter" right now, it's just that I'm really preoccupied with the making of the prequel. The good news on the other hand is that cool new decoration effects have been added to the prequel, which will also be added to "Alien Encounter" in the future. Thanks for your patience.

Fresh out of Xcode: The first beta release of Space Borders: Beginnings. There is only one working mission, it is called Outpost 41. To play it, you will have to tap the "Evacuation" button, since I didn't create an icon for it yet. Make sure you carefully read through the dialogs, briefings cannot be reviewed at this time. What's new: - Obviously a new mission. - Cool background sparkling effects and moving asteroids. - New music (not licensed yet, tell me what you think). - Units can express themselves through speech bubbles. - Overall, a pretty spacey atmosphere. You will find that this mission comes closer to Homeworld (if you know it), than any other Space Borders mission so far. Also don't bother the training mission, it's identical to the previous one.

First mission works great. No problems. Draining of cash to repair working. Probe launch cash deduction working. I thought they were missiles at first and wasted 1.5k haha No credits recieved after mission completion (?). The music is good. Side note: This reminds me of the third mission of Homeworld 2 where the Vaygr attack the shipyard and try to take it over.

That's great! Yeah, the money you make is not stored at this point, this is really more like an alpha than it is a beta. In the future I will replace the probe button by a "dollar" button, which when pressed, will open a small submenu for powers that cost resources. Curious: How do you like the speech bubbles? What about the new atmosphere: the little things that happen in the background? I liked this mission, in fact I loved almost all Homeworld missions! I remember using lots of flak frigates (I think they were frigates), in order to deal with most of the enemies in that mission.

The speech bubbles are ok.
The background is nice too. The twinkling effect doesn't really look like twinkling though. It looks more like small explosions in the distance.

The atmosphere is great, no hampering of graphical usage and cpu performance. The speech bubbles are great.
This one mission was a pain in the ass but it was fun!

Ok, I've improved the twinkling effects. I think they look less like explosions now. The speech bubbles are really just there to not annoy the player with popup texts, when story elements are told. derezz619Thanks! I'm glad you like the changes. Creating the correct atmosphere really isn't easy and requires a lot of fine tuning. Would you say the mission is too hard for a newbie?

I think so yes, it took me a couple tries to get the right "strategy" down to beat it since you just can't go in guns blazing and hope to escape alive.
I know it's still being tested and such.
Almost have to kite all of the enemies in this mission especially when the mass carriers start to show up lol.
Look forward to seeing more!
