Hello everyone,
I have been playing Space Borders since around June of this year. Although I never posted anything, I occasionally browsed around on these forums.
Anyways, I love this game but would like to see some changes. While none of these may get implemented, I feel like I should throw in my ideas.
Box-Selection/Multiple Selection: Pinch to create a box around ships to highlight them (zoom could be made into a bar in the side). If not this, have some way to select multiple ships at a time.
Major Health Buffs on EDF and Alien Ships: Currently, the game is played by clumping your ships into a super tight formation, and then controlling one ship that all the others are wingmen, or wingmen of wingmen, and taping an enemy position. Sure, you may use ships special abilities in certain situations, but your ships are always together in the main fleet. With big health buffs, I would feel far better breaking my fleet up into sections for flanking attacks or scouting. The enemy throws a constant line of ships at you, and your plow through it with your formation. If I could have a few ships be used as bait while another is flanking etc., the game would be so much cooler.
Speed Buffs to All Ships: Not only is it unrealistic that the prototype super-fast ship (the fighter) does not even break the speed of sound, as it travels at a maximum of 300 meters per second, and speed clocks in at just over 340 meters per second, and that some ships travel at about twelve meters per second, which is about half that of a car on a highway, it is excruciatingly boring watching your fleet crawl to an enemy position, especially when attacking in Conquest Mode, in which you locate alien Factories one at a time.
Drawing Movement Commands: Tap and hold on a ship or selected group of ships (with my suggested multiple selection) and drag it to a position, making a colored line that indicates its path. The ships would then move along the line, with the same mechanics as current movement.
Improved Strategic View: I almost never use Strategic View because it has no real benefit to the normal view zoomed out. If drag movement is implemented, have it be available to use in Strategic View; if it is not implemented, add the ability to tap and hold a ship in Strategic View to select it, and tap again somewhere else to order it to move there. I know this was mentioned before, but having health bars in Strategic View would be amazing. The only other things I dislike about Strategic View are the slow zoom in/out speed (I have to pinch around four times just to zoom from minimum to maximum zoom) and how small the dots indicating the ships are.
Smarter AI but Weaker Enemy Ships: Right now, the AI just spawns ships, either from Masterminds or Factories, and sends them straight for your fleet. The only reason that they can possibility destroy you is that there is a constant stream, and it comes form different sides. To make the game more difficult, rather than simply buffing damage, health, rate of production and speed of enemy ships, the AI should group up their ships, maybe even in non-preset formations, and attack or defend like that. To balance this, de-buff enemy ships. Even if this makes the game equally as hard as it is now, I would much rather fight a smart AI than a physically strong one.
Line-Up Commands: Ordering a ship to attack an enemy ship causes it to lose its movement orders. Making ships have a three long queue of orders would not only solve this, but make microing a fleet easier.
More Time Multiplier Options: For the fighting part of a level, up to two times the normal speed of the game is usually okay (with my purposed speed buffs), but mining is downright awful. I understand the need to make mining a tedious process to balance the game, but waiting twenty minutes after you have killed everything in Deep Space Mining just to get around 50,000 credits/gold is brutal, especially because there is absolutely no player interaction. Having up to an eight times time multiplier would be excellent for mining and traveling fleets.
Background Music: While I love the sounds currently in the game, I sometimes feel either like grinding money, or playing in a laid-back fashion. I would really like to see the ability for players to listen their own music/podcasts while enjoying the game.
Varied Enemy Ships: The alien fleet is currently composed of three types of guns thrown on ships and structures of different sizes, with two ships able to spawn minions, being the two typed of carriers. To spice this up, add some different kinds of ships. Long range alien ships (like the Cirus), I imagine, would make fantastic, engaging battles. Even a,new type of gun for the aliens to use would be awesome.
Smarter Targeting: Have all ships prioritize their targets based on the type of weapon they have and their enemy's health or ship type.
Mothership Buffs: Maybe I am just crazy, but I always pictured the Mothership to be the Battlestar Galactica. Regardless of my nerd fantasies, the Mothership needs to be more independent. Either an increased number of turret slots or pre-built guns that could be upgraded would make the Mothership less of a ship to hide behind your other ones, and more of a front-line ship. In addition, the Mothership needs a major buff to its health and artillery damage. It is far to fragile right now to even consider it a fighting ship.
TL;DR Read the titles of each change
I realize you must have crazy amounts of stuff on your plate and I do not know how hard these would be to implement on the IOS app language, but my knowledge of Python and C tells me these should not be too difficult, with the exception of anything that involves AI.
Thank you all for reading and have a good day.
Please forgive any spelling errors; I am typing this on my iPad.
