Well, this next month is a pre-deployment field excersise, so no real combat but after that I deploy in September to the Middle East, so who knows what'll happen there. But being a medic I should be pretty safe, the infantry's gotta keep me alive so I can keep them alive after all

Ok, no beta version yet, but I'm just letting you all know that I'm working really hard on the game. Currently the main menu and dialog UI is being updated. Don't forget that with Yann's new graphics, the Space Dock etc. has to be completely updated. If that isn't enough, all the other artwork in CM, the campaign buttons and so on, are all affected by this as well. You can check out some of the progress on the Facebook page.

Tomorrow the first beta for the new version is going to be released, so hang in there. I've already added all new devices on the Developer Portal and I believe the game is now ready for a beta. I'll explain what things you should look out for in particular and what is not necessarily a bug, but rather "unfinished". See you here tomorrow.

Before the beta can be released, I have an important question. Is anyone under the impression that you have to tap buttons slightly at their bottom for them to work? In other words, if you tap the upper part of a button, does it fail to respond? It would help a lot if this could be confirmed for both the iPhone and iPad. Thanks.

Well, try to make some precision taps on the top border and the bottom border of the same button and see if both work equally well. Also, another test would be to tap the area slightly below a button and see if it works (it shouldn't).

Good on my end. I've even tapped in-between buttons.

Dammit! The reason I was telling you this is that I tried to tap a button at the very top and instead of triggering it, the ship that was currently selected received a move command. To make sure that I wasn't dreaming, I logged the tap coordinates and sure enough, they were off by 8 points vertically (about the size of the status bar that's normally there in other apps). In other words, when tapping above point 8, the resulting coordinate was always 0 and starting from point 8, it returned 1 up to 311. The normal range should be 0 to 319. Don't know if this is a problem with the current build, or whether we all have gotten so used to that offset, that we simply can't notice it anymore. I recall someone saying that you have to tap buttons slightly at the bottom, but can't remember whether it was here, or on the App Store.

Well, I have compensated for this offset, so let me know how it goes. Will post the beta within the next couple of hours.
