Sandbox Mode is fun, but it needs some changes to make it more user friendly and enjoyable to play for longer periods of time. As it is now, even after beating the game and getting access to all of the ships and space stations and etc., it seems you can only just hop into sandbox mode, play around with some ships for a little bit and then it’s over. Sandbox Mode should be able creating your own battle scenarios and setting up grand battles or space chases or whatever your heart desires. Here are some of my ideas I’m bringing back to life since Highway Smash is seemingly nearing its full release.
1) Locking Placed Units: Often times when I am placing EDF or alien units close together, I mistakenly tap too close to a unit I have already placed and delete that unit. This is frustrating. There should be a button to 'lock' a unit you have placed so you cannot accidentally delete units you do not want to delete.
2) Drag And Place: Placing large units, like the factory and headquarters the exact way you want them is quite difficult. Doing this often results in placing and deleting the unit many times until I get it right. This problem could easily be overcome with dragging the unit into place. This way, you could use the star to get the unit facing the direction you want, then you drag it to where you want it to stay. This could very well help with ships, too.
3) Saving!: Personaly, I would love to be able to save any maps I have created. It is sad to see a large and complex map you have spent a long time on dissapear when you exit.
4) Direct Control: Having full, unrestricted control over the EDF armada is awesome, but what if we took it a step further? What if there was an option to switch back and forth between the EDF and alien forces? With this option, you could control alien ships in the exact same way you control EDF ships. Adding this feature would make fore some creative maps and battles.
5) Clear All: This one is simple. I think a button to clear all units, EDF, alien, or both at once, should be available.
6) Locking ships into space station docks: This would add a little more playability when setting up space engagements. Maybe you select a ship of any kind then long press a space station dock like you would another ship to add it to dock it to that prong. From there, you simply select the ship and tell it where you want to go to dislodge it again.
7) Working Factories: Alien and Human shipyards exist in sandbox mode but they don’t work! Why not have the ability to make them work and decide what ships they make? Maybe you could select a factory and order it to make a single ship at the cost of some resources or you could order it to continuously make ships as long as its operational.
8) Space Shield Generators: Like the shield that appears around the head quarters after completing a mission in the conquest mode or the shield around Cerberus cruisers, there should be a shield generator that creates a shield around it and any structures/ships in its radius. This could be upgraded to increase its health, the shield strength, and the range of the shield.
