Well, this is due to the way it was initially programmed. There was an attack turn and a defense turn, now there are variations of the defense turn. OK, granted, it doesn't make much sense anymore! However, you have to lose something... right? Anyway, you only lose it if you take a gamble using the simulate button, otherwise you get infinite retries. - I've added a new mode to the settings for older devices. It limits the frame rate to 30FPS, works fantastic on my iPhone 4. If you only experience lags on rare occasions (with lots of action) though, I believe they can be ignored. My mistake was to test the game on an iPod touch 5G as it has been developed. Totally got carried away with the number of enemies and objects in general. Also, what seems to be helping is to disable mobile internet. My iPhone 4 lags a lot more (even without there being any action sometimes), when cellular data is enabled. Seems like incoming data packets have a much higher priority (which makes sense anyway).

Huh. Is there a way to change that? Like if you fail the mission the sector gets weakened to half strength instead of you losing it? I'm trying to make it as challenging as possible, so I'm limiting myself to one restart per mission. I made the same mistake twice and failed. Maybe I should just focus on testing instead. I'll try switching on airplane mode and seeing what happens.

Experiencing crashes on Nav Beacon missions.
Not sure why, there doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary when it crashes.

Well, the game has now crashed 3 times on a Nav Beacon mission.
I got the "Fantastic! Blah blah..." communication, then I did a total recall and it crashed. Twice this happened.
Once it happened as I was setting up my formation around the Hercules.

I use a ipod touch 4g so is 30fps what the current version runs at?

@joe No, the game will let you choose what mode you want it to run, 30FPS or 60FPS. If you play a CM attack mission with lots of action and experience bad performance, you can go to the settings (while playing) and change the game to 30FPS. Clinkzbone- I actually like your idea about weakening the fleet when playing a "mission style" turn. Will check if this won't cause any problems first though. So all missions should decrease the fleet strength if lost, except for the "defend the HQ" mission, right? This would include: Protect a factory, Behemoth attack, nav beacon construction, escort type missions and assist the EDF missions. - It's interesting you mention that crash. I experienced it many times myself and decided to make a few modifications, then it worked for me. Now that you have experienced the same thing though, it seems that the issue has not been fixed after all. The only difference between the nav construction mission and the attack mission, is the structure that is being constructed. Perhaps the nav beacons have something to do with the crash...

Is the current available version at 30?

Yup, only mission type turns make you lose fleet strength.
Crash bug why do you torment me so?
I've had to resort to using the simulate function to progress, which only gives me a 60+% chance of success :/
So I keep having to go back and recapture sectors because for some reason I keep getting Nav Beacon missions.

ClinkzboneOK, I've made a new build that addresses all the issues discussed here. Concerning the bug, sorry about that. Made a few modifications which will hopefully (but not guaranteed) solve it. We'll just have to try and find out. When you now lose a "defense turn" here is what happens: - If the main HQ is attacked, then you lose the sector. - If it's a secondary mission and the fleet strength is greater than one, then you lose half of it in that sector, but the associated FSP are freed again. - If it's a secondary mission and you have a fleet strength of only one (the minimum), you also lose that sector. @joe The current version of Space Borders runs at 60FPS by default. Here's the deal: 60FPS looks much smoother, however if the game struggles too much to keep the 60FPS, e.g. it constantly ranges from 40 to 60FPS, then the game starts to feel laggy. If the game however runs at 30FPS and can maintain it, the game will appear smoother and more consistent. To summarize it, 60FPS is the best looking (if your device can handle it), 30FPS looks better than an attempted 60FPS, that can't be maintained. The reason for that is simple. The game is divided into game logic and rendering. Game logic does all the calculations like updating ship states position, projectile collision, audio processing, etc. etc., While rendering draws all the graphics on the screen. Rendering is by far the most expensive part (which requires approximately 95% of all game processing), while logic makes use of the rest. If rendering can't complete before the next frame, then logic is also delayed and the whole game starts to lag and slows down. If you only use 30FPS, that gives the device enough breezing room (almost all the time), to complete the rendering before the next frame and to allow logic to complete its computations. Obviously this all involves the GPU as well, but let's not carried away here...

This sounds almost like risk.

ClinkzboneBtw. it seems that I overlooked one of your posts, about capturing Agavan and losing it again, in relation to the intro. Yep, indeed this is what should happen. Agavan is used to en/disable the intro. Once you capture it, the intro stops. OK, I'll make it so that the intro only shows up when Terra Prime is the only controlled sector. andersNever played it.

Wasn't there supposed to be a FPS counter somewhere?
I don't see one...
30 FPS looks...passable, I guess :/ 60 FPS looked so much better IMO.
It gives the game a different feel, because everything moves much less smoothly.
I haven't tested the missions yet.

My progress so far.
Taralas is going to be hard to conquer because my attacking fleet is at 40% strength and the alien defence is at 50% strength.

Clinkzbone- Yep, as explained before, 60FPS looks best, but only if your device can maintain it. If overall the performance is good and there's just an occasional lag (during heavy combat for instance) it's not worth switching to 30FPS. 30FPS is really just for players with an old device, who experience constant lagging during more intense maps (like attack turns). - Yeah, there is no FPS counter. The new mode should be sufficient to solve the problem with older devices. I've tested the FPS on my iPod touch 5G and during the worst scenarios it dropped down to around 30FPS, other than that it maintained 50 - 60FPS with ease. - During the campaign my iPhone 4 was able to cope with 60FPS as well, no problem there. It was only during attack mode that the frame rate dropped to as low as 20FPS and having it go from 20 to 60 and from 60 to 20 just looks awful. Once the frame rate limiter was active, the whole thing felt a lot smoother. - Bottom line: Use the limiter if your device struggles too much with a certain mission/map. You can disable it again, once you go back to a regular mission. - Try going for Agualar and Xelvak first. - Curious if the nav beacon missions will work properly this time. NormanconI've heard about this game before. Some of my friends used to play it actually. Well, maybe once CM is complete I'll take a break from working on a game and rather start playing one. Might as well be a board game.
