Has it been tried on a ipod 4 because i know ipod 5's have twice as much memory as a ipod 4

No, but on an iPhone 4. Memory is not the primary issue here, but processing power is. The iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G both have the same architecture, so the difference should be minimal (if any).
